A researcher at the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA, I.P). She has more than 20 years’ experience in fish reproduction and on-growing of several marine fish species. Margarida is specialized in fish nutrition, feed formulation and she is currently interested in developing projects on food security and fish wellbeing. She completed her MSc in Aquaculture from Stirling University, Scotland, in 2002 and her PhD in fish larvae nutrition in 2008. In 2022 she was the convener of a session entitled “Sustainable strengthening and safe use of marine and freshwater resources to increase food security in developing countries” held at the United Nations headquarters, in NY. She is currently editing a book on “Aquatic Food to Foster Food Security in Developing Countries” which will be available in November 2023. Moreover, Margarida Saavedra has over 30 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and over 40 communications in scientific meetings.
